Physical Therapy for the Whole Body
Jennifer Knox (at Knox Physical Therapy) offers a holistic approach to her physical therapy care. Where some clinicians are limited to working on a specific joint or body part due to insurance and corporate restrictions, Jeni’s approach treats the whole body—the whole person. She uses an osteopathic approach of listening to the body and its tissues, along with an orthopedic assessment, guiding her to the area in need of attention and treatment.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a hands-on approach to treatment. It is a technique that mobilizes or moves the joints in the body to increase mobility, function, and decrease pain. All joints have specific motions they move through. When they become restricted, we don’t move as easily, we may feel pain or discomfort, and manual joint mobilization can help with these restrictions.
Visceral Manipulation
A gentle manual therapy that assesses the structural relationships between the viscera (organs) and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the various systems in the body, such as the musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive, eliminatory, neuroendocrine, and lymphatic systems. (Jean Pierre Barral, D.O.)
Neural Manipulation
This is a light touch, hands-on treatment that releases local nerve restrictions while at the same time examines the effect these local fixations have on the rest of the body. It enhances the proper functioning of the nervous system. (Jean Pierre Barral, D.O.)
CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a body system called the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding and protecting the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system and many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. (John Upledger, D.O., O.M.M.)
SomatoEmotional Release
This is the expression of emotion that, for reasons deemed appropriate by some part of the patient's non conscious, has been retained, suppressed, and isolated within the body. (John Upledger, D.O., O.M.M.)
Women's Health Therapy
This includes working with women pre-pregnancy and helping to ensure the reproductive organs are in their optimal position. It also includes working with women during their pregnancy helping to control pain or discomfort. In addition, it includes working with women postpartum, realigning the pelvis, and helping with prolapse and urinary incontinence.
NKT (NeuroKinetic Therapy)
This is a manual muscle testing assessment tool used to identify and correct faulty movement patterns in the body.
Dry Needling
A technique that uses acupuncture needles that penetrate a muscle causing a change in the muscles cellular component, allowing it to function normally.
